|Bit Error Rate Test Receivers and Signal Simulator [back]|
A number of various Bit-Error-Rate Test Receivers have been developed
and manufactured by TimeTech GmbH for MSG, METOP, CryoSAT. The
receivers are principally used for Bit-Error-Rate measurements of the
satellite rf-link and are integrated into the RF-SCOE (Special Check
Out Equipment) of the satellite manufacturers. A flexible,
programmable satellite signal simulator has been developed to verify
the receiver performance.
Example: MSG RF SCOE Test-Receiver
The MSG SCOE Receiver is a multi-channel Bit-Error-Rate Test-Receiver
used in the METEOSAT 2’nd generation RF SCOE. It down converts,
demodulates and decodes the following listed satellite rf-signals.
Bit-Synchroniser and Decoder Unit
The receiver is capable of measuring the Bit Error Rate (BER) of Viterbi-encoded
bitstreams down to Eb/N0 = -1dB. It is a
rack mountable unit of height 4 HE. A built-in micro-controller
automates all system functions. An IEEE interface allows full
instrument control. The degration of the Bit-Error-Rate by the
receiver (implementation loss) is less than

Overview of supported Satellites and Missions
Satellite Signal Simulator
For simulation of the satellite signals required for verification of the RF-SCOE receivers, TimeTech GmbH has developed a programmable and therefore highly flexible signal generator.
This signal generator interfaces to a standard PC-Bus (ISA) and uses a re-programmable FPGA for real-time generation of encoded and digital filtered high data-rate base band signals. Presently the generator facilitates the following signal features:

Various IQ-Modulators have been developed for direct QPSK-modulation of rf-carriers from the VHF-band up to L-band with data-rates up to 100 MBit/s.
